Samantha has always believed money and politics should not mix. A candidate should attain his or her position based on their own attributes, merits, and pre-existing ties with the community’s they have taken an oath to serve. She is very competitive and understands that in the districts where Republicans are running she will have to stay adamant and is willing to do so with the strength of a proven activist. She stands by her affirmation that all Democrats should walk the talk of not wanting money in politics and is firm in her belief that big money and business should have no part in this race. It is a local election and even though money is required for certain occurrences, she feels there should be a cap in order to assure an equal opportunity for anyone who wishes to fight for the rights of their community and people. She believes more in a handshake than in newspaper ads, she prefers face to face conversation over a thirty second impersonal T.V. commercial. She advocates that campaign staff should be a volunteer force participating in the push because they know this candidate will work hard for them and the people, as opposed to offering services for a paycheck. In order to enforce this, she has set a personal cap of $10,000 for her campaign and has a strict budget she herself has implemented. All funds will go to t-shirts, buttons, maintaining her website, literature, stickers, pens, paper, printing, water, and stipends for door knockers. Samantha is aware that her opposition will be accepting an excess of over $100,000 in donations and have won by gaps of up to 40% as a result of this, however, she is firm in her stance that money is better spent by representing a grassroots back-to-the-people campaign. It is her goal to always remain transparent, to always deliver on her promises, and to include the community every step of the way. Her goal is to help the people, by giving the power back to the people, and helping them implement the proper policies needed to empower them, while abolishing the old outdated policies implemented by the myopic non communal leaders who have thus far come before her.
Samantha Magdaleno is running for State Representative for District 6, because she feels that the last presidential election made it abundantly clear that the traditional candidates on both sides no longer represent the people. She feels a moral obligation to step up and give the community she represents a leader that has a personal investment to their well-being. She was born in Detroit to two teenage parents and was raised to be humble by her grandparents, who instilled sound morals and core beliefs into her and her upbringing. She has spent her life dedicated to helping people of color, while mentoring youth around the nation. Samantha has offered her life to assuring justice for all, the local youth jesting that she is, “Married to the community.” At twenty-six years of age she is aware that she alone cannot make the changes needed to empower the people but has a heartfelt loyalty to making decisions that will lead her community to empower not only each other, but themselves as individuals. She intends to be very active in district 6 with a hands-on approach, reaching out to the community working on issues that the people of district 6 find valuable. Never easily deterred, she is willing to fight fiercely on her community’s behalf and keep up the transparency needed in order to keep the people involved in guiding their own destinies as well as generations to come. She plans on examining all policies and laws to make sure that they work for the majority by pushing limits to get results that will benefit everyone residing in her district. Samantha may only be twenty-six, but she has a decade of experience in community organizing and has two educational degrees that can and will assist her in negotiating and helping those who understand how to help improve the community. Her organizing experience will assist her in strategically choosing policies to push forward that have the potential of passing instead of wasting time and energy on policies that don’t have a chance, simply to win popularity. She shall always remain transparent in her actions, understanding that the key to gaining trust is to remain open and honest. Samantha Magdaleno works for the people, not the money, and understands her responsibility is to the people, not the office, and she takes being a public servant quite literally.
